Unique 1885 English Broadwood Upright Piano Restoration!

Unique 1885 English Broadwood Upright Piano Restoration!

Brigham Larson Pianos

This Broadwood piano had a unique story from the start. The family discovered it during their time in London, and it became a memento of their years abroad. However, after decades of storage, the piano was unplayable—its birdcage action mechanism was nearly impossible to operate, and the exterior had lost much of its original beauty.

After Restoration!

Key Restoration Highlights:
  1. Brazilian Rosewood Exterior:
The rosewood case was carefully refinished to enhance its natural beauty while preserving its antique character.
  2. Period-Accurate Details:
Candelabras sourced from vintage ads and original pedals replicated with precision restored the piano’s historical integrity.
  3. Interior Overhaul:
From replacing hammers and dampers to installing new strings and lacquered soundboard patches, the inside of the piano now matches its gorgeous exterior.
  4. European Tone:
The finished instrument retains its soft, refined tone, true to the Broadwood tradition, making it ideal for classical music.
Watching the family’s emotional reaction to the restoration reminded me why I love this work. There’s nothing like transforming a non-functional antique piano into a playable masterpiece that can be enjoyed for generations.
