Piano restoration on a 1890 Schimmel and Nelson
Share
We just completed a Piano restoration on a 1890 Schimmel and Nelson. We completed this piano in about 10 months. It is just gorgeous! Complete refinish and rebuild! During a piano restoration, we replace the strings, pins, hammers, shanks, and also the dampers (they are not only replaced but improved!) We also replace the pins, bridle straps, leather, felt, and cloth throughout. We did all of that with this piano. The outside is refinished and all the hardware is polished like new again. Another item we usually replace is the the keytops. With this piano, we kept all original ivory with some repairs in a few places. Everything is just looking great. In the end, we are so happy with the final product.

We are often restore a piano for two main reasons: Either it has been passed down through a family for generations and is a family heirloom, or, because a person desires the unique aesthetic of an older piano that is difficult to find in modern pianos. In this particular case, the piano belonged the the customers grandma and she inherited the piano.
