The Cunningham Family Piano!
The Cunningham Family Piano!
We are a family of pianists. We love them and play them. We are first gen pianists and love playing just for fun. We’ve also used this piano for teaching new and developing pianists. I want to keep this piano for the rest of my life and pass it on to my family for generations to come.It has special sentiment for me as it was my source of comfort in really trying times. I grew up and learned to play in the church. Much of the music I know by heart is worship music. Playing after a stressful day helps me. I’m not a concert pianist by any means but I love to play. We have another piano (electronic) and me and my spouse often play duets. The quality isn’t great as this piano slips out of tune quickly. It’s fun though. My passion has been to restore this piano and give it a deep and rich tone. Unfortunately, doing so is outside our means. Thank you for having this opportunity.
I purchased this piano from a church over 25 years ago. It was not well maintained or cared for and the church had let it sit in extreme hot/cold temps for some time. I had hoped to restore it but the cost has been too much. I had the ivories replaced several years ago but can’t afford to do much more. I have deeply fond memories of teaching my kids and other students on this piano. My kids are all grown now, but I cherish those moments with them. We used to sit as a family and sing around the piano and (even in its state then), I loved to hear it. I would love for this piano to be restored to protect those memories and build more with the next generations. Unfortunately, the church I got it from had drilled holes into the sound board in a couple of places, several of the hammer pads are hard/worn, the finish is worn/scratched, one of the legs isn’t stable, and some of the hammers are broken. It doesn’t hold a tune like it used to and it saddens me to see it not in its glory. Restoration would be a dream and a blessing. This piano has helped me through some really dark times in my life. It was always such a comfort to play… it has been my friend and it eases my soul. The song I played in the video is a compilation of songs I put together almost 40 years ago and I’ve not performed it since. I wanted you to hear the range of the piano so I tried. I’ve always done this song from memory and I flubbed a few spots. This piano could be so beautiful if restored and I’d love to hear it with deep rich tones. Thank you for hearing my story. I cherish this piano and I hope I get to see it in full glory.
