The Beauty of Satin Refinishing: Results on a new Hailun VII3!

Brigham Larson Pianos

Hi everyone, Brigham Larson here from Brigham Larson Pianos. Today, I’m excited to share a video showcasing one of our recent projects involving Hailun’s top-of-the-line upright piano, the V133. This piano is simply awesome, and I’m thrilled to have it here. In the video, I go over my experience with Hailun pianos and highlight some of their unique features. I’d like to expand upon that here and also delve into the process and benefits of satin refinishing, a service we proudly offer at Brigham Larson Pianos.

Hailun pianos have been a part of my showroom since 2010, and I've always been impressed with their quality. The V133, in particular, stands out due to its exceptional touch, tone, and overall performance. Despite not being manufactured in traditional piano hubs like Germany or New York, Hailun pianos offer a level of craftsmanship and quality that rivals pianos costing two to three times as much. This makes them an excellent choice for serious musicians looking for high-end performance without the hefty price tag.

Satin Refinishing: Enhancing Piano Elegance

The Hailun V133 featured in our video originally had a shiny finish. However, the new owners requested a satin finish, which I think looks stunning. Satin refinishing is one of our popular services, and it offers several benefits:

1. Aesthetic Appeal: Satin finishes provide a classic, understated look that many piano owners find more appealing than a high-gloss finish. The soft sheen of a satin finish enhances the natural beauty of the wood without the glare associated with high-gloss finishes.

2. Maintenance: One of the practical benefits of a satin finish is that it hides fingerprints, smudges, and minor scratches better than a glossy finish. This makes it easier to maintain the piano’s appearance with less frequent cleaning.

3. Versatility: Satin finishes blend well with various interior styles, from modern to traditional. Whether your home has contemporary décor or a classic look, a satin-finished piano will complement your space beautifully.

The Satin Refinishing Process

Here’s a look at the steps that go into refinishing a piano:

1. Preparation: First, we carefully clean and sand the piano’s surface to remove the original glossy finish. This step is crucial for ensuring the new finish adheres properly and looks smooth.

2. Application: Next, we apply multiple coats of a specialized satin finish. Each coat is carefully applied and allowed to dry thoroughly before the next coat is added. This layering process helps achieve a rich, even finish.

3. Final Touches: Once the final coat is applied and dried, we buff the surface to enhance the satin sheen. The result is a beautifully smooth, elegant finish that elevates the piano’s aesthetic.
